Programme


This retreat is suitable for all yoga levels including beginners and anyone needing a nurturing getaway in nature. Stay in Suryalila's beautiful retreat centre nestled in the Spanish mountains on the edge of the awe-inspiring Sierra de Grazalema National Park. Enjoy lovingly prepared vegetarian food, unique sound healing and breathwork sessions and afternoon siestas in one of the softly swaying hammocks.


One of the wellness activities you’ll enjoy is a walk in the Suryalila team's favourite spot – along the banks of the flowing Majaceite river in El Bosque. Follow the beautiful river trail under a canopy of trees before stopping off in one of the inviting natural rock pools filled with pure mountain water for a revitalizing cold dip. Afterward, make your way back to Suryalila for a home-cooked organic meal prepared using local, seasonal ingredients and a warming herbal tea made with fresh herbs grown in its permaculture gardens.

When you are not enjoying these experiences, allow the sun to kiss you at Suryalila's beautiful salt water pool, lazily read a book in a hammock, take a meandering horse ride, book a massage, or wander around the beautiful grounds and surroundings of Suryalila.


Additional activities such as horse riding and massage are available at an extra cost (subject to availability).


About Charmaine


Charmaine began her yoga journey almost 20 years ago In search of a deeper meaning in life and to find tools and practices to help calm her anxiety. What began as a strong physical asana practice has developed and blossomed over the years into a beautiful, loving, heartfelt offering, a sacred and safe space for inner work and healing.


Charmaine is a RYT 200hr with Frog lotus yoga and she worked as a senior assistant on the frog lotus teacher trainings for a number of years in Spain and Bali. After falling in love with yin yoga and practicing at home for a few years on her own; in 2014 she traveled to Bali and graduated RYT 200 hr in yin yoga under Jo Phee and Joe Barnett.


After 6 years of continued study and mentor ship under Jo Phee , In 2021 Charmaine completed her RYT 300hrs with Yinspiration school giving her the title of RYT 500 in yin yoga.


She has studied with a wide variety of teachers and in various styles over the years but her true love of yoga and teaching lies within the quiet, healing, contemplative and meditative practices.


Charmaine holds a safe, nurturing and healing space for her students to dive deeper into the inner sea of self. She teaches yoga from a functional approach using the Grillies method as taught to her by her teachers. She also loves incorporating meditation, yoga Nidra , breathwork, sound healing, devotional chanting, and energetic practices.


Originally from Canada, She is based on the South East Coast of Ireland. Outside of being a yoga teacher Charmaine holds a diploma in Sound healing, she is a trained Thai massage practitioner and a facilitator of Rebirthing breathwork. She works at Suryalila retreat Center in Southern Spain hosting retreats, offering yin yoga workshops, sound journeys and Rebirthing breathwork circles.


When she is not traveling She lives a very quiet life in Ireland enjoying time in nature and continuing her studies, personal growth and development as a student and teacher.


Her main focus for 2022 as we transition through this world wide pandemic is to hold a safe and sacred space for people to come together as a community offering healing workshops and wellness retreats with all of the beautiful tools she has gathered on her personal journey of growth and healing.

“I arrived a day late due to work obligations so began the retreat on Tuesday morning. From the first yoga session, before breakfast even, I knew this place, these people were going to be a completely new experience and a delightful one. The yoga was demanding but exhilarating, animal, graceful and deep. And then breakfast was superb. Not just because I’d worked for it, but because the fruits and vegetables and grains were delicious.


However, my first meeting with Charmaine that evening, I know now, was life altering. I have always been a bit wary of the spiritual side of western yoga practices. The misappropriation of Hindu beliefs and god descriptions can grate on my sensibilities but Charmaine married eastern practice with her own beautifully. Her generous and open being holds myriad beautiful moments, and disparate threads from many cultures in a gorgeous tapestry which she wraps around you. She gently but firmly showed me how multiplicity and magic can exist everywhere, in a blossom, in a note, in a pose. The week continued, my relationships with the other retreat members deepened and we had some great hikes and more lovely food. But ultimately, what I took home with me were the gifts Charmaine gave.
