Making life lighter: FIVE WAYS TO HELP YOU DETOX FROM HOME

It is never too late to shrug off the sluggishness of the previous month and cleanse the body, and here at Suryalila, we're busy getting ready for our week long Detox Retreat led by founder Vidya Heisel. Days will be spent replenishing mind, body and soul with detoxifying juices, yoga, meditation and blissful days in nature. Vidya embarks on a cleanse like this once a year, and says it leaves her feeling full of lightness, energy and stronger in her yoga practise. We'd love to share this gift with you, so this blog post is full of tips, inspiration and free recipes to help give your body and mind a spring clean from home. Enjoy!



1. GREEN GOODNESS JUICE RECIPE

This is Vidya's favourite juice recipe. Full of fresh, zesty flavours, this nutrient-dense super juice will help to alkalize and hydrate the body, reduce inflammation, boost digestion and strengthen the immune system. To try at home, simply whizz up water-rich cucumber, celery and kale with a small amount of apple, a sprig of parsley or coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice. Drink fresh to avoid losing those all-important nutrients.


2. PLANT THIS HEALTH BOOSTING HERB NOW

Coriander AKA Cilantro is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and, according to studies, can help remove damaging metals from the body. Sow coriander seeds in the garden or window boxes now until Autumn in moist, but well drained soil or compost, and harvest throughout the summer to add a fragrant vitamin-packed health kick to juices, soups and salads.


3. INTEGRATE DETOXIFYING TWIST FLOWS IN YOUR YOGA PRACTICE

Yoga twists work wonders for detoxifying the body. How? When you're in a twist, you're essentially compressing your digestive organs, and when the twist is release, a rush of fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients flood your digestive organs, increasing their ability to function. This re-introduction of fresh blood can also help to cleanse the cells, while the twisting motion can help to move any stagnated impurities and gas through the digestive tract.


4. MEDITATION TO CLEANSE THE MIND

Embarking on a cleanse isn't only beneficial for the physical body, but can help to cleanse the mind too. Cutting out stimulants such as spices and caffeine can stop the mind from feeling so agitated. This, in turn, can make meditation easier, which ultimately, can help you to move through life with more clarity.
